Western Australia Photography Workshop October 2022
Crawley Boat Shed - Western Australia
Written by John Armytage
There are places that stay with you long after you’ve packed away the camera. For me, Western Australia is one of the best states in the country for landscape photography. I’ve been photographing this region for over 10 years, and now we have run Four WA workshops — the memories, the laughter, and the incredible images we captured still stand out as some of my favourites.
Now, in September 2026, we’re doing it again. This time it’s an 8-day / 7-night photography workshop designed to help you Capture, Learn & Inspire in one of Australia’s most stunning landscapes.
A Photographer’s Playground
Cottesloe Beach - WA
WA has it all — dramatic coastlines, vibrant cityscapes, world-class wineries, and unique wildlife. From the iconic blue tones of the Crawley Boat Shed and golden sunsets at Cottesloe Beach to the raw power of Sugar Loaf Rock and Wyadup Rocks, every day brings a new opportunity to capture something extraordinary.
Busselton Jetty - WA
Kings Park Memorial - WA
Sugarloaf Rock Dunsborough - WA
City Skyline at dusk
Two years ago, mornings often began with calm reflections at jetties like Busselton and Quindalup, while evenings ended with colour exploding over the Swan River skyline or the sweeping views from Kings Park. These are the moments that not only produce great photographs but also spark creativity and inspire new ways of seeing.
Hands-On Learning & Inspiration
At the core of this workshop is growth. With a supportive small group, you’ll receive personalised tuition on composition, light, and storytelling. Together we’ll work on identifying points of interest, leading lines, and creating images that truly connect.
Group processing and critique sessions will help refine your style, while in-field guidance ensures you leave with new skills and fresh inspiration. Whether you’re just starting out or already experienced, this workshop is designed to help you learn, create, and have fun while doing it.
Beyond Photography – Food, Culture & Connection
Christian Fletcher - Dunsborough Gallery
WA isn’t just about landscapes — it’s about experiences. From wine tasting in Margaret River to visiting Christian Fletcher’s Gallery in Dunsborough, Christian has been one of my mentors over the years. This workshop blends creative exploration with cultural highlights. And, of course, there will be plenty of great dining. Sharing meals, laughter, and stories at the end of each day is what transforms a tour into a truly memorable adventure.
Wrapping It Up
Busselton Jetty - WA - Long Exposure
Western Australia is a destination that inspires like no other. With its sweeping coastlines, city skylines, vineyards, and cultural highlights, it offers a photography experience that is as diverse as it is rewarding. Add in hands-on learning, expert tuition, and a whole lot of fun — and this workshop is set to be an unforgettable adventure.
