At the heart of the journey is the iconic Superman Barn—a remarkable rural landmark and an unforgettable subject beneath the changing colours of dawn and dusk.
Created for a small group of photographers, this four-day workshop combines carefully selected locations, personalised tuition and a relaxed pace. You’ll have the time and guidance to refine your compositions, respond to changing light and create distinctive, portfolio-worthy images.

Set on private property near Breeza, the legendary Superman Barn is one of regional New South Wales’ most distinctive and compelling photographic subjects.
Access is available only with the landowner’s permission—and we have secured exclusive authorised access for our workshop group.
This is far more than a roadside photo stop. You’ll have dedicated time inside the property to explore the barn from carefully selected viewpoints, refine your compositions and photograph it as the afternoon light gives way to sunset.

Merriwa & the Liverpool Plains, New South Wales
Our workshop begins in Merriwa, where sweeping farmland and brilliant canola fields create some of regional New South Wales’ most striking seasonal landscapes.
From there, we travel to the Liverpool Plains near Breeza for our signature experience—private-property access to the legendary Superman Barn and its surrounding rural scenery.

FINAL MORNING
The workshop concludes on Sunday following our sunrise photography session and breakfast.

Three nights’ twin-share accommodation is included, with stays at the Best Western Quirindi and the Golden Fleece Motor Inn & Lodge in Merriwa.

Carpooling between accommodation and photography locations will be coordinated throughout the workshop. Full meeting points and travel arrangements will be provided before departure.

With a small group and two dedicated leaders, you’ll receive generous guidance, practical support and individual attention throughout every photography session.
JOHN ARMYTAGE
John is a professional landscape photographer based in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, and the founder of John Armytage Photography.
He specialises in leading small-group landscape photography workshops across Australia and internationally. His relaxed, practical approach helps photographers understand their cameras, strengthen their compositions and create more considered images while exploring remarkable locations.
CRAIG WILLIAMS
Craig is an experienced landscape photographer and workshop leader who has travelled extensively, photographing dramatic scenery throughout Australia and beyond.
He brings a wealth of photographic knowledge and a thoughtful, approachable teaching style. Craig works closely with participants to refine their technique, recognise stronger compositions and develop a clearer creative vision.
GUIDANCE WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
John and Craig will be beside you in the field—helping you respond to the light, explore different perspectives and make the most of every location.
With two leaders and a maximum of eight photographers, expert guidance is always close at hand.

Please Note
At John Armytage Photography, our priority is to provide you with the best possible photography experience while ensuring the safety, comfort and enjoyment of every participant.
From time to time, weather, tides, road conditions or other circumstances beyond our control may require adjustments to the itinerary, photography locations, accommodation, dining venues or schedule. Any changes will always be made in the best interests of the group and to maximise your photographic opportunities.
Cancellations & Refunds
If you need to cancel your booking, please notify us in writing via email as soon as possible.
Payments are refundable up to 60 days prior to the workshop commencement date.
Unfortunately, refunds cannot be provided within 60 days of departure unless your place can be filled by another participant.
We strongly recommend that all participants take out comprehensive travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances.
Participant Responsibilities
Participants are responsible for arranging:
Travel to and from the workshop (unless otherwise stated)
Personal travel insurance
Medical insurance (where applicable)
Any personal expenses not included in the workshop package
Participants are also responsible for ensuring they have a reasonable level of fitness suitable for the workshop and for taking appropriate care of their personal belongings and photographic equipment.
John Armytage Photography accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, damage, personal injury or additional travel expenses incurred during the workshop.
Workshop Cancellation
In the unlikely event that John Armytage Photography is required to cancel a workshop, all monies paid directly to us will be refunded in full.
While we will always endeavour to provide as much notice as possible, we cannot accept responsibility for any third-party costs incurred by participants, including flights, accommodation, travel arrangements or other associated bookings. For this reason, comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.
